1.3 million views and downloads later, one thing has become clear: healthcare leaders are hungry for thoughtful, in-depth conversations about the ideas, technologies, and people shaping the future of healthcare.

That's perhaps the biggest lesson we've learned since launching Lifers earlier this year. At a time when AI can generate endless amounts of content, audiences are increasingly seeking something different: authentic conversations with people who have actually done the work.

In April, Lifers officially crossed the 1 million mark – 1 million views and downloads across YouTube, Spotify, X, and Apple Podcasts. We are now at 1.3 million across our platforms, as it’s taken us a few weeks to put pen to paper.

Every publication is shaking up for the AI era and determining its core content pillars. All of this is shifting as traditional newsrooms continue to evolve. The overall picture is bleak, but there are bright spots on the horizon.

So what’s working? We are still in experimentation mode as a new media company, but I can say with high confidence that our bet on video is taking off. With AI increasingly being used to author content, it’s increasingly unclear whether an individual has sat down and really taken the time to compress their thoughts. What’s real and human? What is a machine?

Video offers an unparalleled opportunity for authenticity, the most valuable currency we have at a time when everyone is vying for attention.

In healthcare, there are plenty of individuals who have found big audiences sharing snake oil wellness schemes. We’ve also found (thankfully!) that there’s an immense interest in individuals who can share nuanced ideas, real strategies, and go deep on problems. And those are the guests that I’ve prioritized for Lifers. We sit down with the people building, leading, investing in, and reshaping healthcare and give them the space to explain how they think.
